SAPPERTON PUMP STATION REPLACEMENT

Project Overview & Collaborative Engineering

Henry Foundation Drilling Inc. (HFDI) was successfully awarded the comprehensive design-build shoring contract for the high-profile Sapperton Pump Station Replacement Project. Tasked with delivering a robust and reliable deep foundation retention system, HFDI engineered a custom structural layout tailored to manage severe hydrostatic loads and strict site boundaries.

Severe Environmental & Hydrologic Challenges

The structural execution for this municipal utility installation required exhaustive geotechnical planning due to its immediate proximity to active natural waterways:

  • Waterway Proximity: The active Brunette River was situated as close as 6 meters away from the main structural footprint in several critical areas.

  • High Hydrostatic Forces: The local site features a high, static water table resting just 2 meters below the ground surface.

  • Excavation Constraints: Managing constant water infiltration risks while ensuring a completely stable, safe, and open workspace for the general contractor (GC).

The Engineering Solution & Quality Control

To combat the intense hydrologic conditions and ensure a completely dry, secure excavation, HFDI selected and installed a high-performance shoring matrix utilizing deep secant piles, high-capacity ground anchors, and structural steel internal bracing.

  • Meticulous Design Planning: Executing the project near the river required careful mathematical modeling regarding optimal pile depths, strict installation tolerances, and exact anchor quantities to withstand localized shifting pressures.

  • Water-Tight Interlock Precision: Our drilling crews maintained rigid alignment monitoring to achieve a perfect secant pile interlock, successfully blocking groundwater seepage and forming an impermeable barrier against the Brunette River's sub-surface flow.
